Kompaboutik is about providing a medium where Haitians can buy into their own culture. We thought to set out a site that provides a platform where interaction and user control go hand in hand. By the way, if you wonder what KompaBoutik means to us, the answer is simple: "Kompa" is for cultural goods and entertainment and "Boutik" is for connection or marketplace.

KB is an attractive, well thought out and well designed interactive and informational website that has been in the making since 2006. We strive to keep simplicity and aesthetics under one roof. The design does not use a heavy mixture of colors unlike most Haitian websites which tends to render the visual experience to a null. We built KB from well-written custom PHP-HMTL-MYSQL programming and open-source scripts that keep the site in sync with thousands of users every day. KB is currently hosted on ghtex, LLC high-end infrastucture and installations with its state of the art technology.

Kompaboutik.com is not a new web design idea but rather it's derived from existing web concepts on the net. After conducting surveys on surfing habits of our fellow Haitians and analysing the resulting data, we were able to conclude that the Haitian surfer is sually between 18 and 50 yrs old with a larger number in the 20-35 bracket looking for entertainment and forms of communications. Lately there's been a sudden surge in surfing numbers due to social networking of the new web 2.0 ( Myspace and facebook)

The bracket 30-50 yrs old, looks mainly for active communications with the Mother land, especially local news. Last but no least there is a thin range that shops occasionally for Haitian specialty items that are not found on the foreign markets. (music, movies and handcrafts)

The site is divided into three main category: Shopping, Entertainment, and communications as the Main Menu so clearly suggests. These categories are in turn subdivided into modules that make the framework of the whole site.

We at KB did not set out to create a site that is overcrowded with ads, which, ultimately can cause the surfer to lose focus on the purpose of his/her search.

To sustain our presence we obtain our financial support mainly from user exchange commissions at our ebay-type system and the used car listings. We believe that ads tend to deface websites. However, we must admit that we needed to post few ads to subsist from independent sponsors.
